[Chugalug] Can anyone suggest the best MTU to use with EPB WAN?

Lynn Dixon
I am tuning my pfsense setup, and figured I would tune the MTU for the WAN interface.  Currently its the default of 1500, and I was wondering if there was a more optimal setting that should be used with EPB 1 gig service.

Any suggestions on tuning?

Lynn,

I would be interested in your final tune settings is you would be willing to share.  I am on epb at work and home with pfSense boxen in both places.

Once upon a time: 768 was a magic number. It really depends on most of your traffic and usage.

Run Statistics in "iptraf" while you do some common usage, and see what most of your traffic looks like.
This is me hitting two common web interfaces I use:

Unless you are ONLY going to talk to other EPB nodes, and not anywhere
off their network, you should leave it at 1500, otherwise, you are just
going to cause yourself issues.

P.S.  Lynn, sorry for the double-post.
