[Chugalug] Job opening in Atlanta

John Aldrich-2
They want a "desktop support" person proficient in Windows 2000/XP. I figured
"what the hell" and named a price of $75/hour on a W2. Hopefully that'll scare
'em off. :) I mentioned I'd need appropriate compensation for overtime/after-
hours work as well... :) I really don't care to get back into IT, *especially*
supporting XP or Win2K!

Billy
Is this a contract or a perm position with benefits?

$75/hr translated to perm position is about $150k a year. I don't see Atlanta paying that for desktop support :)

Sunnyvale, CA? Maybe...

I think $75/hr is John's polite way of saying "NO. Go away."

Eric Wolf
$75/hr on W2 is a good place to start negotiating. My 1099 rate is $125/hr (and has been for almost 20 years). But that's just the starting point.

Companies that just roll over and go away when you state your rates are not good candidates for long term employment. They obviously undervalue their employees or have narrow margins.

Companies that bite quickly on the high rates are also not good candidates for long term employment. I did get $125/hr once for 60 hours of work. That was Lehman Bros about two years before they crashed.

Yeah. As Benjamin said, it's pretty much my "I'm not really
interested, but hey... if you want me bad enough to pay me this
much..." :)

Good advice, thanks!

P.S. You're also not doing desktop support!
